What Happened To...?

Speaking of 25 new faces of independent film (see post below to catch up), what happened to Peter Sollett, the fellow who made the 2000 gem of a film below? He was on the list that year, but hasn't produced anything since then...

    Awww... This was a sweet film indeed. However, his disappearance makes me realise that Latinos have it far worse than African Americans when it comes to movies and mainstream cultural enertainment. I'm guessing that if "Raising Victor Vargas" had been about a bunch of white kids, Raising Tommy Smith, perhaps (or, hey, about "Kids"!?), then he may have been given a few million to make a few more movies, espcially given the accolades "Raising" received.

    Alas... Mayhaps he'll be called upon to direct the first of Mr Junot Diaz's writings that gets adapted for the screen... Or maybe the momentum is lagging somewhat for even that to happen...
